Founded in 1950, MEVGAL has a long lasting tradition of processing milk. We have grown to become the largest dairy company in Northern Greece and the third largest in the country.

 

It all starts with fresh milk.

That is why we have taken it into our own hands to guarantee the freshness of the milk we use in our dairy products. Thirty-eight tank trucks journey daily to 1350 milk farms to pick up deliveries of the freshest goat and sheep milk. We believe the shorter the distance from the farms to our plants, the better. With that in mind, we have strategically placed our MEVGAL facilities in close proximity to the milk farms. In fact, all the collection equipment Mevgal owns and maintains is inside a radius of a mere 150 miles. This, in turn, ensures the fast delivery and immediate processing of the milk, which translates into fresh, healthy dairy products.

The milk used in our cheeses is special as it comes from free-range animals grazing on the local flora and fauna of the Hellenic meadows. At MEVGAL we make sure, with specially trained veterinarians and food scientists to check, test and certify that the milk used in making our cheeses is the very best and of the highest quality. In addition, MEVGAL also provides the farmers with individual cooling tanks to further guarantee freshness.

MEVGAL processes 102,000 tons of cow milk annually, and an estimated 28,000 tons of sheep and goat milk.

The milk, upon its arrival at the MEVGAL factory, is immediately pasteurized and sent to the state-of-the-art production line. With love and respect to traditional methods and utilizing modern technological equipment, while exceeding the strictest E.U. standards for nutritional value and hygiene, it's made into the finest cheese around.

Environmental protection is something we feel strongly about. We operate a modern biological waste treatment plant and a whey condensation unit, as well as take part in an alternative packaging management system. We also recycle paper, glass and metal.
